Sarcasm aside, nobody should really be surprised by this. People with connections or who are good at sports, or have certain things they bring with them, are obviously gonna be having an easier time getting into a college like Harvard than someone who doesn't. It's a preppy school, with preppy (and sometimes snobby) people.
According to the article, it seems that they split the students about 50/50 in to 1) "legacy or athlete" and 2) you're genuinely brilliant, smart and deserve to be in. Those actual smart people tend to make up for the other half of the idiot student body. Which in turn keeps the brand name strong.
1. Are you a legacy?
2. If you answered 'no' to question #1, how much can you pay us?
3. Do you require a scholarship to attend?
4. If you answered 'yes' to #3, are you a minority whose attendance we can exploit publicly?
5. If you can't get a scholarship, don't qualify for enough aid to attend, why are you still here? No, seriously. Piss off. Try your safety, you plebe.
I also wonder how most Ivy League schools can get way with tuition increases when almost all of them are sitting on 1 Billion dollar cash endowments.
