Perhaps yes, but what I'm guessing is that he doesn't want to pay directly through his Debit/Credit Card, for example typing in his Sort Code, Account Number, and his CSC (although may work different ways in different areas). With PayPal, sure, you may have to link your bank account to your paypal, and add a bank card to it also, but paying through paypal, they would only receive his PayPal Email, and not his actual banking details. If you know what I mean :)
