I'd disagree even though I ran it. Most people didn't show up and the servers were never set up, which I was at fault. It was a big mess.

If you don't like the current events happening then tell us what you'd like to see. We'll cater towards what the community wants.

Vanilla is a good bet. I'd suggest doing events like "classic map selection" or "custom maps" or "awful maps" or gungame or something.

Also just because we don't officially "own" a server doesn't mean we cant set up events for other fun games like GTA, Dead by Daylight, Rust, ARK, etc etc
Just gotta see what everyone is playing, convey on the forums and then SteamGroup to add to party.
There are plenty of games we could all play, shit even a Gmod Build with a bunch of Egn would be hilariously fun.

I'll be brutally honest (even though it's pretty much already been mentioned), these recent events are boring and uninteresting, and I'm not really surprised that the turnout seems to be relatively low. Especially when there seems to be an event every week (sometimes multiple times a week) at this point.

You don't have to make an event to get people to go do things. Things like board game online? Putting that up as an event honestly feels like a waste of calendar space. It's not that hard to just get people to click your link and play with you while in your channel. I see people in Bribee's channel playing BGO a lot. All the power to them. But, putting a calendar event for just BGO seems boring and stupid, imo. There's not even any good reason to attend. If there were a prize for winning, or a best of 3 gets bragging rights and a spotlight on the forum (or something like that), that'd be something cool and worthwhile. If it was any more effort than essentially just saying you're playing BGO at a date and time, then it might be worthwhile. But no, it's just a boring and uninteresting event.

Same goes for this Quake Champions event. I get that people like Quake Champions, but that doesn't mean that it needs to be an event, especially when the amount of people in EgN who play it are relatively low. And, again, there's no mention of anything more than it just being a date and time to play. Which, again, you can do that over ts3 or steam anytime you want, without an event. Wasted calendar space.

Tbh, even things like populating minigames, jailbreak, or other servers of ours, seems like a waste of space without any real thought going into it.

And you know, wasted space like this isn't such a bad thing, if there's maybe one every other month, on top of some good events. But instead, all I see are these wasted opportunities, with maybe one or two good events every half a year to a year. Imo, things like this are what you get when you have a large events team that feels like all of its members have to start their own events. As in, if they don't host an event they get kicked off. That's ridiculous. A good events team should be ran where you actually meet up on certain times, like once every other week or once every month, and you all plan an event for the month that everyone will be helping with setting up. Maybe this events team member will lead the setup of the server, with these 2 other members. Maybe this member will design the forum post and setup the calendar event, possibly with another person to proofread. Maybe another member will be training 2 other volunteers on how to administrate the event to make sure it runs smoothly. It could be setup in committees, it could just be that people vote on who does what. However it runs, everyone should be working together on individual events, not the other way around.

You all could learn a thing or two from the older events team, imo.

For specific events that could be done, I know of a few that worked well in the past:
  • Knife tournament - Back in the day, there was a knife tournament that resulted in a prize for the winning team. It was 3v3, on one specific arena map, with a tournament bracket. The teams were posted on the forums by the team captain, or people signed up individually or in pairs and were matched with a team. The turnout was great, and people came back for more.
  • 5v5 - Not much needs to be said there, since it was recent, and most people understand how a scrim works at this point.
  • FFA - Doldol ran this one on a custom server with his own custom plugin to enable FFA, and a prize went to whoever had the most kills. It worked fairly well, and the turnout was decent.

And finally, here are some that I could think of setting up:
  • Counter-Strike Soccer match - If we setup a soccer server for this event, and have a tournament with teams of somewhere between 3-5 players, we can do a good soccer tournament. It could be with 15 minutes per match, with whoever gets the most points winning, or it could be the first to a certain amount of points wins. Either way, if the server gets properly setup, and there are some admins/refs keeping watch, this could be a fun event.
  • Bhop race - Over 3-5 maps, points are given to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd person to beat the map. (3 points for 1st, 2 for 2nd, 1 for 3rd) After all maps are over, whoever has the most points wins a prize. Possible smaller prizes for 2nd and 3rd place winners. Specifics can be determined by votes within the events team, such as whether the auto bhop plugin will be enabled, or what maps will be played, etc.
  • Course map race - Same as above, but with course/climb maps, as opposed to bhop maps.
  • Jailbreak purge - On a separate jailbreak server, there is a very small amount of rules, making getting killed significantly easier. There will be a system to give points for certain things like successfully rebelling, or leading the round to LR as a warden, or killing a rebel. Getting LR gets points too. The specifics on this would take some serious planning, especially with consideration for the fact that there would need to be a way for someone (or a plugin?) to keep track of the points. Either way, it'd be a fun way to reward people for their skills on jailbreak, such as being good at rebelling, or good at being warden.
  • Quake Champions, Board Game Online, karaoke, etc. - You've already got all these events that are being planned, there's nothing that stops you from putting more effort into it and making into an event worthy of peoples' time and effort. A good rule of thumb is, if you cannot think of a way to split the setup between multiple people, it's probably not worth the calendar space. Make it more interesting, have some more ambition with it!

That's just my $0.02 on the issue.

even if the original Vanilla event was ran/done somewhat sub-optimally (both from the competitors' side for not showing up/giving short notice as to not being available, as well as the event organizer(s) not planning ahead well enough), it was still a decent event overall and one I think a solid amount of people got enjoyment out of. Could always just take the negatives that happened from that event, learn from it, and just organize an even better version of it in the future :)

The 5v5 was probably the best recent event we had, especially when compared to a lot of these lower quality events. People always won't show up, regardless if they sign up or not. I've hosted 3 or 4 of these personally in the past and had similar results. Really if you manage to pull together two teams and play a few games the events already much more successful than all these other events. I believe there were only two teams last time, but if you manage to get 4 teams then things start to get a lot more interesting.

It doesn't make much sense to write the event off as a failure when it did much better than other events, people actually showed up to it unlike most other events, that should say something about which direction the events team should be heading.

I understand you put all this together and pretty much took your time writing it clearly, holy. Yet I don't see people here even trying to help out with the events team, wutchu could do is talk about how it's being ran and if you want to reason with the leader / owner of the events team and what not. I honestly can't see applications to join that team (I don't think atleast) but I'm pretty sure applications are running low. If there's no working as a "team" than how would you like events to come through. Oh and hey, perhaps a price here'n there. Cuz you know I've got buckets filled with money waiting :'). That's good, that's good. But do you really need a prize. That's kinda greedy. "For EgN to get my time, I need to atleast have a chance of being rewarded with something that costs some money. Ha, that'll show'm." You know, perhaps you could reason with EgN :') you remember those monthly donations that would likely be required :D Perhaps you could also look at those for a brief moment ^-^

If you want to put something to consideration, bring everything to light you know :D not just factors that could assist people in pointing out faults or failures.
I don't know how far y'all think a team can go when nobody joins, leaves no comment (hey try this) and all of a sudden boom. ^-^
I like this, let's see how many fish will bite in this ocean :D this gonna be fun ;)

Personally I'm finding it hard to go onto jb because I know if I go on, I'll be on for hours. Which I can't do due to being in my last year of schooling. I can try being on teamspeak more but I more hang out on discord with my irl friends... But yeah that's me. I also can't make events cause study and timezones.

I was always going to apply for the Events Team myself once I got promoted to Elite and share my two cents then, but I may as well post my thoughts here since we're having this discussion now.

On the events team as it is, I wouldn't be too critical of them myself since it is a low ceiling they're working under, all they're trying to do is help populate servers and get people in the community together. Even if it's just a customary "a few of us are playing GG at 8pm on Saturday", then that's okay, not every event needs to have bells on.

With that said, I would like to see more bigger, exciting events with more forward planning, more notice and more incentives for both attendance and participation. I'd be more than happy to play a part in donating cash or Steam gift cards that we would give away in competition-based events if that's how both the events team and the community at large would like to go forward. This is how other communities do it and I think EgN should actually reward members more for being a member, whilst the staff should be more critical of who it allows to be a member. Some people here wouldn't for a minute get away with their behaviour in a community like eGO and that degree of both success, security and community synergy is what we should be attaining for.

Perhaps graphics could play a part too? A header for the event, a trophy that people can wear in their signature if they win the event, or win in a sub-category of the event itself. If we were holding a scoutzknivez competition, most knife kills could be a category we award a prize for.

One community I used to hang around with had only one server and that was a 32 player Rotation server. Once a month they held an event called Fight Night where they played Rotation in a locked server for clan members only on a first come first serve basis. Perhaps an annual event like this could work, we could host it on the one but last Saturday of the month and it's something people may look forward to every month - I've seen myself that TTT days are great fun and the reason I rejoined is because good times like that are what being in EgN is all about.
