Dyno didn't abuse on the server, anyone who says otherwise is just a shit throwing baby. How he responded to the report is a different question though and I think is valid for discussion and consideration.

As for the use of racial slurs such as "nigger", I told Kharn something similar to this, but I thought I'd get it on with it and post it on here too so that EgN at large can weigh in on this.

Its very interesting how this word is put on this pedestal for being untouchable. Yes, it has a hateful history, but there are other words that are used within EgN that have a similar hateful history. What about Faggot, Retard, Kike, Gook, or Chink? All of these word's have been used by people within EgN (interestingly some of these people are having issues with Dyno's use of the word "nigger") however I have never seen it brought up in a context such as this.

Context is the huge point in this situation. We pretend like whoever says this "untouchable" word is automatically a racist. But like, come on, really? Doesn't putting Dyno's use of the word and putting the use of a REAL white supremacist's use of the word to sling real hatred undermine real hurtful racism? I think if you're offended by the use of a word in a non-hateful/joking manner that, in most cases, isn't even directed at you, then that sounds like a you problem. It shouldn't be the job of other people to control your emotions for you. Yeah, if it is in a hateful context (even if it isn't directed at you), then it should be dealt with, because its discriminatory. We don't ban people for saying "Fuck that was a great round", we ban people for saying "Go fuck yourself."

That doesn't mean that I think Dyno is entirely protected here (I think he should be by FORMAL punishment). Lets say that you find Dyno's use of the word in poor taste (Which is fine, I think it was in poor taste also). Then you can approach him and be like "Hey Dyno, I'm really uncomfortable with your use of that word. Can you like not?". You know, have a level headed conversation with the guy, like normal fucking adults. Or another idea is to just, like, not talk to the guy. There are some people on EgN who I have a legitimate problem being around, but instead of going on the forums to bitch about it (like I used to when I was a cringy teenager), I would either talk to a higher up to mediate a (mostly) civil conversation about our issues, talk directly to them about the issues I've been having with them, or I just avoid them.

One last thing. This conversation is older than EgN itself. We have had this conversation many times in the past before, and to title this like "EgN's Current State" as if there is anything legitimately important at stake here is a fucking joke. I think it is a good conversation to have none the less.

Let's see if I can break this down.

So, the N word is one of the most, and well probably the most controverted claims / words in English language and won't change from that stance. You can't compare that to other words like faggot, cunt, or retard. But regardless, it's has definitely been reclaimed from when it was originated or whatever you'd say, but the connotation to the word is solely negative in every aspect. Any attempt to re-appropriate the word has done nothing but failed and created ignorance, resentment and a double standard as to who is allowed to say it, when it really should be used, and how it should be used. You can relate it to calling someone a kike, boong, eskimo, and all the other ethnic / racial slurs you'd considered to be but nothing has really had an impact like the N word, per se. There's no colloquial notation to it. If you evaluate the "degree of offensiveness" by the context in which it's used in that's just going to increases the terms "smart ass" and "troll" to the server.

Words like faggot, other etc. aren't nearly as alike to the n word neither would I consider them to be so. There's definitely a wide dissimilarity between the words nig and fag, and yea, what it comes down to is say, in that particular community (i.e EGN in this case) what / how is ____ considered to be offensive, so on, and so on. You'll see that the n word probably takes the poll. Doesn't mean you shouldn't take action against words like faggot, or cunt, if it's directed to anyone or if it's clearly used to intently remark other players on the server then take apt. action. Just to note, we still have a "Don't discriminate" rule.

Oh also, don't compare this to "you being racist" if you say it because you aren't. It's just a negative word of expression that no one wants to hear.

To be honest, i think claiming any word to be considered offensive is just deceptive, but in terms of a community like this, it's appropriate to just leave it out unless you wanna deal with steves.

Honestly J-Dawg, I will have to agree with you 100% here, sure my way of handling the complaint was poor, and yes I came out swinging and really defensive, THAT is what I can apologize about sure. In regards to punishment, i've already stated i'm willing to lay down and accept any punishment thrown my way, however my view on this won't change. On this point, if anyone has ever come to me with a problem on saying nigger, then I've made sure to be careful too not say it around that person (Trust me, there is plenty of times when people are playing pubg with me that they've asked me to stop and I do) However in this sense, most people who are being really self righteous and coming at me, have all said it themselves and other things likewise, I can promise you i've heard EVERY SINGLE STAFF MEMBER current and past (since i've been here) use that word, or other similar in teamspeak. The reason i find this ridiculous is due to the fact that it's coming out and directed at me, and there is a few people who are trying to make this point clear, when again, they are being hypocritical.

It’s funny cause you make it seem like all the staff use it as a joke and just throw the word around. You can name specific people but don’t you fucking dare call out all the staff like that current and past. You make it seem like you know all and see all and it’s kinda annoying. I’ve never once just sat around in teamspeak, laughing my head off, while calling people the N word. I’ve used it in certain circumstances to which I explain why it shouldn’t be used in a professional tone. YOU AND A FEW OTHER STAFF MAY DO IT but just because they do, doesn’t mean the entire staff does. You just look like an ass when you say everyone does it.

Edit: also people were wayyy more discrete about it when we were both staff, but you openly used it soooo much it wasn’t even funny. So that could possibly be a reason why this convo is about you.

Oh just wanna add, Dyno, again think I said it quite a few times in this and maybe a few other threads. No one is out to get you, at least I haven't seen it. But being that you're an Advisor it may be more the fact that they / members expect more out of you which I can particularly agree with being that you DO represent EGN. I'm not going to change my views on this, and i'm not trying to call people out, it's a word, and everyones used it, you proved my point, you all said it, and no-one was up in arms about it, I openly use the word nigger and don't care about it, however a screenshot of me saying nigger in the server (with 4 people online including myself) all of a sudden it's the end of the fucking world, however it's not calling someone a nigger directly, in a insulting manner.
