dunno if there's any other fellow nerds in the clan, but here goes

i recently finished the Ready Player One book and personally enjoyed it a good bit better than the movie
lot less sellout, lot more detail
everything felt developed, not rushed
the plot was much more involved and interesting to follow along with
but i guess you could say that about any book turned into a movie, couldn't you?
I digress

More recently, I've been reading "The Infernal Devices"
A trilogy set in the Shadowhunter universe, but it takes place around 1870 in London
Much more romance-heavy, but still an amazing series by Cassandra Clare
On the last of the three books now, Clockwork Princess
Excited to see how she finishes out the series

So now it's you guys' turn.
What books are you reading / excited to read?
Life sucks and then you die. So why not try and enjoy the time you've got here?

I see things not as black or white, but instead what comes between.
Because pure bad comes from a nightmare, and pure good from a dream.
So when someone asks the question, "Hey, how was your day?"
I miss not a beat and, quick on my feet, say
"Just another shade of grey."

"Nothing is a promise. But a promise is everything." - Eaglebby

The only things I read are educational and how-to books. I see no long-term benefit to continue reading novels at my age, I can obtain better stimuli through other mediums. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But, the Tom Clancy books were always my favorite. Cardinal of the Kremlin, Hunt For Red October, etc.

How about, for example, creating art? Surely increases creativity more than reading a novel, and other than expanding your vocabulary what positive effect does reading fiction novels hold over anything else?

I can't enjoy fiction myself either, I get nothing from it, but I think philosophical books are always good

That's purely my point. Whatever knowledge a fiction book will provide you is likely inconsequential.

I'm not dissing all fiction. Just saying that it has no real-world effect for me. A Clockwork Orange will always be one of my favorite books.
