I've been pondering this question for a while now and thought I'd open it to the floor, see what response bounces back...
If a person is straight for straight people, and gay for gay people, are they bisexual or pansexual?
N.B "straight for straight people" means people of the opposite sex, and "gay for gay people" means people of the same sex.
N.B(2) Assume there are only two genders, Male or Female (Don't get triggered it's a hypothetical question - plus there really are only two genders (sorry NOT sorry)).
"These aren't just crumbs. This is the whole fucking pie."
c o r y . i n . t h e . h o u s e . i s . a n i m e
They way I look at it, if you like the opposite sex you are straight, and if you like the same sex you are gay, regardless of whether or not the target of your affections is gay or straight. Classifying beyond that is unnecessary IMO. If you like both yoy are bi.
I like to think that bisexual and pansexual are the same thing, but the pansexuals will claim they aren't. Cause "Pansexual is liking the person for who they are and not for their gender" is what I've been told, but technically couldn't that be the same for bisexual? (durrr)

In a non-binary gender world it would actually mean something, but in reality, it just means you don't have standards when it comes to partners.

Bisexual = attracted to those who identify as being men as well as those who identify as being women.
Pansexual = attracted to people regardless of gender identity.
Pansexuality, by definition, relies on the correct, scientifically-supported conclusion that there are more than two genders.
Scientifically supported by what lmao. Like I believe that there are more than two genders, but what scientifically accurate source has found evidence of more than two biological genders?

Sources, please.... Cause some people consider anyone who believes in anything other than 2 gender-roles as mentally ill. (Not my opinion, but these are counter arguments one may encounter)
Gender is a measure of self-identity, it has nothing to do with biological sex, hence the word sex, not “biological gender.”
Therefore saying there is only “2 genders” is psychologically incorrect. While I disagree that there is more than 2 genders, it doesn’t change the fact that, in short, your “gender” is (this isn’t accurate but) basically a measure of your opinion of what you think you are. Claiming there is scientific basis for anything other than what I just stated is simply wrong. Scientific basis on an incorrect usage of a word is fallacious to begin with
Sex on the other hand is the characteristics of male and female that you have, stemming from sex characteristics. You are born either male or female, with testosterone and estrogen. There are only 2 sexes because the definition of the word is biological. On this basis there simply cannot be more than 2 sexes.
Thus, I’d say this scenario is bisexual. There’s 2 sexes, and you’d be attracted to both. That’s the definition of the word following the definitions that I have provided.
I disagree that gender is that far removed from sex; that you can have that much "opinion" on your gender. If we agree that sex is biological, gender refers to qualities reflected by your sex and the two are inseparable.
You can be a man and ACT like a woman, but you will never BE a woman and vice versa. Simply acting like the opposite sex is not enough to change your gender.
When you act a certain way for a long time, you start to believe that is who you are. That's why people say it's a mental illness.
