Pretty simple thread, just tell us what your favourite game genre/type/style/etc is, and why it's your favourite.
I'll start: I like games that are inherently difficult, but still fair. Retro graphics also make games look more appealing to me, but aren't required. Usually games like bullethells or roguelike/lies peak my interests.
The reason that I like these types of games is because I love the feeling of progression, especially when it comes to my personal skill. I can't really explain the retro though, that kinda popped up outta nowhere.
Life sucks and then you die. So why not try and enjoy the time you've got here?
I see things not as blackorwhite, but instead what comes between. Because pure bad comes from a nightmare, and pure good from a dream. So when someone asks the question, "Hey, how was your day?" I miss not a beat and, quick on my feet, say "Just another shade of grey."

My favorite games would always be Rising Storm and Red Orchestra 2, Arma 2, and Rust (currently)
Just realized it said why...
I like them because Rising Storm and Red Orchestra 2 are really cool first-person shooters where you instantly die to basically any weapon in the game. It's a bit realistic but the most realistic and the most fun I have ever had was in Arma 2 where there wasn't any DLC bashing like they do in Arma 3 and the community in Arma 2 seemed nicer, however, the game kinda died now except for that DayZ usual. Rust is because I'm hooked on it right now.

Open World Adventure/Exploration games and most RPGs (Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Dragon Age, Deus Ex, Dishonored, and an old game called Gothic)
The feeling of adventure and immersion when playing games like these is what grips me the most and it's great when a game has you start from the bottom but work your way up like Gothic and the older Elder Scrolls games (particularly Daggerfall and Morrowind).
A lot of these games also have amazing dialogue (Fallout 2/New Vegas and the first Deus Ex) which can either make the game hilarious but also deep and thought-provoking, especially in the case of Deus Ex.

Undertale, FFXV, Osu!
Undertale-Amazing story, love the way they designed the game, made you connect to the characters even tho it isn't a long game. Like how it is old fashioned!
FFXV- Good story aswell, I like the how it is grindy but not to grindy. Good graphics and fighting in the game feels really good, love it :).
Osu!- Awesome game but hard to get into. It is hard to explain but it's super cool! Love playing this I usually play this most of the time in my free time.

Yeah, osu! is an awesome rhythm game but it can kick your tail when you first start. I'm just a casual player, but the time I have with it is really enjoyable.
