Hey!

Today I was on my college break, and I get a text, unsure who it was from, but gathered it was McDonald's considering the name had came up as "McDCareers". The message was to check my emails, and I was confused? I was in the middle of a game on my phone, and I receive this text. My face was confused, and my friend was like "Why are you pulling that face?" - I replied with "I just got a text to read my emails, eh?" Considering I'm an IT student, I gathered hey look, it could be a scam, someone could have got my number and scammed me, but the name popped up as McDCareers and well... I don't have that on my contacts so it must have been something official, so I proceeded to look at my emails, and I found that I had got a job interview at McDonald's. I went to my friend and said "I got a job interview at McDonald's!!!", not that it's an achievement to get a job at McDonalds as it is a hefty working environment, but I don't care if people think it's not a good job, and it's not good to have a job in a tight working environment, to me, does it matter? I'll be working for my money, and I'll be getting a alright wage, I'll be getting just over the minimum wage, so I'll be getting £6.00 an hour, and if I get the job, and work my ass off for a few months, I might even receive a pay rise.

The point in this is, I'm asking for some advice for the interview. I also undergo a little Job Evaluation, and my friend who works at the same place said I get put on the drive through and I get tested on there, and I'm confident I'll do good, but I am super nervous, as it's my first ever job interview, and I don't know how to act, what to do. I started watching some youtube video's on how to act in a McDonald's interview, and they said when you first meet the interviewer, shake their hand, not too grippy, but not too soft, make it a firm handshake, and be professional (which is obvious).

I talked to my Personal Tutor at my college for help, and he agreed to give me a mock interview, to see what I do, and how I do, and I'm even nervous in that, but I'm less nervous than I'll be in the real thing as I know this personal tutor, I've had him for 3 years now, so I'll be fine.

Any extra advice anyone can provide?

My best advice honestly would be to quit preparing. Just go in there and be you man. Stressing over it and trying to prepare perfect answers will just worry you more and make you nervous. When you interview, you just want to be calm and cool, and be yourself. Give honest answers. All you've got to know is who you are and what you'be done, because that's all they want to know, and everyone knows about themselves. Every interview is different and impromptu usually, because they interview goes on the path that you take it. The interviewer asks questions about you, so you choose that path. Sure they might have questions they pool from, but if you answer "I've never had any work experience" they won't ask you "So tell me all about your last job," so really you can't really prepare for that except knowing yourself. So be you. If you want to prepare, then learn stuff about the company. Learn their website, what they stand for, stuff like that.

Another thing, to make sure they see you are interested, is to view it like you are interviewing them as well. This interview is likely the last chance you have before getting the job, just as it is for them hiring you. So you gotta make sure this what you want. Ask them questions back, information about their company you couldn't find or understand. Don't ask about pay, not for a job like this. But general info stuff, like maybe about what you'll be doing, the work environment, etc.

Matt's advice is solid, I'd like to add that to help with the nerves you should have a friend interview you, and bounce some practice questions off of you. Hell, if you want we can do this in TeamSpeak, and I can play the interviewer from hell.

Common questions:

Why do you want to work here?

What experience do you have in food service?

What do you think makes you a good addition to the McDonalds team?

What is your greatest strength?

What is your greatest weakness?

Of course, they will not stick to this script exactly, but it's good to prepare.

Like Matt said, it's an INTERview, they are seeing if you're fit for the job, and you're seeing if you want to work here. Not every McDonalds franchise is the same, some are great to work at, others are horrific. One question I highly recommend asking is, "What would workers here say their favorite and least favorite parts of the job are?", as it will show you how in-touch the manager is with the entry-level workers.

In summary, reflect on yourself, do some research, and practice interviewing.

Experience isn't a factor here considering they full train you, but thank you for the advice!!

Lol what? If you had experience you'd be preferred over someone who didn't. It's almost always asked in these types of interviews.

What I meant is that you don't need experience if the job does full training, as they train you on what to do anyway so you won't need experience - it's how it works where we are (I have no working experience, but still made it to the interview stage).

Yea I'm gonna leave early from college to get there (which it's only like 20-30 mins away walk from college, and like an hour from my house walk, in which i'm able to do considering I walk 20 mins to college and back every 4 days so). Thanks Serious :)

I've been recently trying to get my first job, kinda nervous about my interview too. But best of luck hope you get it!

If you haven't had experience before say when they ask you for positives: Although I haven't had work experience im eager to learn.
Other things you might want to mention is since its mcdonalds, I can think on my feet, Im respectable at school and carry myself well, things like that.

I hope all goes well good luck with the interview, just dont drink the water, sit up straight, smile when they talk to you and be confident :)
