It's been done before, paratroopers in WW2 would use small devices to make snapping noises. They were used to help identify friendlies at distances where sight wasn't good enough, so if for example you saw a head sticking out of a fox hole but wasn't sure about approaching then you'd make snapping noises to get some back.

If nothing came back then you were facing an enemy.

Meh, I know "SnapChat" is all about snapping photo's and shit and sharing hence the name.
