If I had the opportunity to travel more I definitely would. Otherwise I'd like to explore the country around me before going international.

Also, North America is YUUGEE.
Between Canada, Mexico and the United States of America, you have a big difference in geographical locations to visit, as well different cultures to explore.
I believe the saying is "In Europe, 100 miles is a long distance, but 100 years is a short time, in America, 100 miles is nothing, and 100 years is a lot", meaning despite not having a huge landmass, there is still a tonne to see and do, and in America there isn't a lot of history (like LONG history), so you travel long distances to see the places where history took place.

A friend of a friend had European friends over (in the GTA, southern Ontario), and they thought, like in Europe where you can visit 5 countries in one day and not blink, that they could take day trip out to BC to see the mountains... they were surprised to find it would take 3 or 4 days to drive out there

I get both of you there. I've always said America has very little of its own history as it is ine ffect a very new country. (Off-topic slightly)

More to the point, I'd start international whilst youre young, build up that experience and confidence. When you're old you won't want to travel as far and might not have the same opportunities.

IMO, do it whilst you're young, fun and don't have to worry too much about anything (money inparticular).

That's the dilemma. Travel young, but no money. Your old, you got money, but no bones to carry ya!

So, do you go into debt to travel, or work your ass off to travel, lowering your quality of life.
It would be nice to be able to visit a different culture other than my own, but it's a LOT of money to fly across the Ocean, not the same as taking a train to Germany.

Most interesting place i ever traveled to was DPR Korea (North) - if your ever in the region i would seriously recommend it, before it opens up and changes.

Honestly, I've had this conversation SO many times, and it seems hard but you'll see what I mean if you do a solo trip by yourself....

Travelling is not expensive. you do not have to get in to debt. It's not about luxury or comfortability. It's about seeing the world and being outside your comfort zone. Flights can be very cheap if you get them at the right time from the right place, and you can stay in hostels for less than £5 a night. I have travelled through a country for 3 weeks and it cost me elss than £350. Morocco can be done for even less and even longer. i get where you're coming from, I thought the same before I became such an adventurer (I've taken a bit of a break from it for education, but I'm back at it this summer), but it isn't as expensive at it seems. The only issue is getting the time out of your schedule. Which next summer won't be a problem for me - I'll be a full time traveller!



I'm fascinated by DPR of Korea. I'd absolutely love to go, but I've never truly looked in to going, and I assume it's very difficult to gain entry. I'd obviously be a bit less comfortable than usual. But I would love to hear more, if you'd be able to PM me some more details, or write it here?
