Yeah, I agree.
Now lets look at an interaction we had at a point of vulnerability in my life, mid 2014, in which I was making a huge transition and was prone to depressive episodes.

Basically the nature of Sadness.

I have no idea why it appeals to me, but listening to music and thinking about how life can start small and end big. Topple the highest mountains and crawl the lowest valleys. It was once said that life is precious, and for one to receive such a gift; you were chosen. You needn't waste it with suicidal tendencies.

idk if this is the right thread to post this in...

but i like to think that philosophy is as general debate where 1 person tries to make a valid and serious argument and there are others (philosophy trolls) who just shit on their arguments.

1 fine example/my personal fav:
"man is mortal, Socrates is man, therefor Socrates is mortal". -Socrates.

"a potato has skin i have skin therefore i am a potato". -Bill Murray

Pretty much, with the exception that I wouldn't call them "philosophy trolls". That would imply that these people are simply there to piss people off, but in reality these people are here to challenge the philosophies that these people made.

Such as the time when Plato gave Socrates' definition of man as "a featherless biped", Diogenes brought a plucked chicken to Plato's Academy and said "I've brought you a man"

He wasn't trying to piss people off, just challenge a philosophy that was given.

Most of the posts here were TL;DR for me, but to answet the question in short, I am very into meditation, mindfullness and wellbeing.

Being active and eating well is a huge part of who I am, and also becoming more aware of the mind and controlling it better is interesting to me. I try become more congitive by taking 10 minutes a day just to give myself some headspace, and I have felt the benefits massively.

I love culture and also hearing every viewpoint on offer regarding politics, the way the world works and other such conversations.

Philosophy is much more than one person making a serious debate and another just trying to shut it down with "trolling". I'm sure that's happened before but I would discourage generalizing something as vast as philosophical debate.
Philosophy originating from the greek word philosophia literally meant the love of wisdom, and focuses on more fundamental values like existence, the mind, and reason.
Although I'm not here to bore you with definitions and TL:DR paragraphs, it seems you have a very loose understanding of the concept.
But good on you Woissa, that's how I started becoming interested in the subject, but it can go as far as you want to take it. It can be hard to get into philosphy over a forum, admittedly my best conversations have been either baked out of my mind or on LSD.

Maybe we could host a Philosophy or Politics debate as part of an event? Would be a nice idea, and if everyone was open-minded enough, there wouldn't be anyone shouting down someone else's opinion with their own. I'd love to hear philosophy and political viewpoints from across the pond where your stance on such things could be largely dissimilar to ours here due to cultural differences. It would be nice to have an intellectual conversation without the trolls.

Hosting an event gives off the impression that everyone is invited, EgN isn't stable enough to hold a civil conversation about such a topic, at least with a large group.

This is why it would be sign-up only, and we'd need to know names/number of people before they were allowed to join. They'd be briefed on the rules and non-adherence would mean a warning and removal for persistent disruptive behaviour. It's quite easy to monitor if we do it on TS and get enough interested people who are willing to listen to others and wait their turn to speak.

I suggest Gmod as the meeting servers type, just because you could create any setting and put yourselves in the right frame of mind.

Setting can sometimes make the experience all the better, and never neglect the small details. So perhaps some tea cups or a meal setting?
