Is an apology truly an apology or genuine when the only reason for the apology is due to staff and advisors threatening to demote or kick you from the clan because they have had enough of you? I don't feel he should be demoted. It'd be absolutely ridiculous if he was, and I think the staff+ agree, otherwise it'd have already been done.

Going through shit or not, don't take that as an excuse to cave in like that.
