His mom is stupid for not telling him the story when he was a child to put him in his place. Woulda made him appreciate her more instead of resenting her lack of an eye. Also it jumps from him being a kid to him going to college and having kids. Did she not see him because she was missing an eye?

Well he might have been in her blind spot. That would be pretty big since she's missing an eye.
