One thing that put me off Born To Die was just how fake it all seemed. The lyrics were just mind-boggling at times and it definitely felt like Lana was digging too much to satisfy her unique reputation. She was trying to be too edgy and as Pitchfork put it, it was the music equivalent to a fake orgasm. Ultraviolence seems more like her finding her comfort zone, she's matured a little and began to dig deeper into her demons and even started being ironic in places. Not to mention the production that is just perfect for her, it matches the mundane tone of her lyrics more than Born To Die's did. Although I will admit, Born To Die has some good songs on it.
