Maybe a [Serious] thread tag, like Reddit has, where if you don't post "Seriously" (AKA; No shit posting) you're post is removed, and if you do it enough you are forum banned?
Though it means more work for staff (but you guys are doing it already, so it could possibly make it easier: "shit-posting in a serious thread, removed", may make it easier. ?
This +1000000
Please, locking threads is annoying as hell. I am not on my computer 24/7 due to the fact i have a job, a girlfriend and have to go the gym 3 evenings a week. Sometimes even i have valuable things to add but sadly the thread is locked..
There could be an issue with this, that I just thought of. I post in a "serious" thread. I don't consider it a shit-post. Nameless-Staff / Advisor see's it as a shit post and removes it. I don't like my self proclaimed none shit post being removed. I get angry and start making noise and getting this and that person involved. Drama
To avoid this we would just need to define it pretty strictly, so in a "Serious" post, it has to be relevant to the OP (or someone else), and can't just be a low effort joke (which I know I do a lot, so this could help when you're looking at a thread). Maybe try it out and see how seriously we can "serious" threads hehehehehe
This occurs already and will occur no matter what we do.
I'd like to say that this idea isn't good because people should just use common sense and realize when something is serious, but I realize that common sense doesn't come around so easy anymore, so this idea might not be terrible. But if something says serious and your post ain't serious imma forum ban yo ass

What do you mean it occurs already? We don't have a "serious" tag for threads at all right now.
The main goal is to make it easier for staff+ to keep a thread on track without getting people up in arms about it. Yes we have no posting in ban reports / complaints etc.., but when we have threads in the General section where you don't really care, you get shit posting, and some times you want a serious discussion about what car you want to get, and not have people coming in say "ford is shit lololl ur a dummy". It's a way to differentiate a thread from being "anything goes" to "please respect the intent of this post; to create discussion".
If you think "common sense" is enough to differentiate between threads where the OP intends for it to be taken seriously or lightly, well it's not always obvious. This would be an easy way for everyone to promote better discussions, while keeping the "trolls" or "shit-posters" out of threads were we want to better promote our ideas or get feedback, because sometimes you wanna just have a casual discussion about x topic.
I appreciate you completely missing the point and calling it a bad idea, though.

+1 Like kelly said a lot of the time its unclear and besides, its not like your going to spontaneous combust if you try something new right?

What occurs already is people making a completely irrelevant post but they think its legit while staff see it was a shit post so it gets acted on -> that won't change, sorry I should've worded that better.
And the common sense; idk if you read the previous comments on this thread before they were deleted but I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to figure out that Mr. GoldGames thread here isn't a joke, that's what I was getting at.
Don't get me wrong, I get your point, and it's a good one.

Yea that's true, this was pretty obviously a serious thread and we got shit-posters almost immediately. You guys tried to leave it up, hoping it would get better (and it didn't). Not try to say anything about how staffers handled it, just that it happened, does happen, and will continue to happen.
If we had an actual "tag" or rule that marked it as such, you could remove the off-topic posts right away (or when you see them) without fear of being called "nazi-anti-fun-mod", and in doing so you keep other people from commenting on the rude or off topic post, because that's ALSO what happens. Someone posts something irrelevant, rude, or both, and people react to that. If we have a rule in place to remove off topic posts (on marked "serious" posts, as I've been calling them), then it will help curb that.
All while still keeping the fun threads like the meme threads alive.
And then if someone starts complaining to higher ups about shit posting in their threads, you can tell em to mark it serious! I see it as a way to just get rid of off topic posters, in a way that doesn't require staff to constantly keep an eagle eye out (could even roll that into a "report" system, where users can report comments of off topic), but now I'm getting off-topic :)
I do think we should try stuff before truly implementing it, maybe a week or two week long time frame where you have to precede your post title with [Serious] if you don't want "low-effor" or "shit-posts" on your thread. (For example, calling out someones grammar, and only that sorry caboose!
Though I think you guys get my point, and now I'm rambling.

I mean I don't think it's also so hard to just leave a reminder. Not everyone is in the mood to hop on the forums and handle business, most of us are coming off of school, and I myself get off from work and want to just have some fun with friends. I admit I shit post quite a bit but I don't mean to derail threads.
