Yall there is a Diabetic koala at the san diego zoo, his name is Quincy. He a cute boy. Anyways he has type one diabetes and there is a company called Dexcom that makes CGMs ( constant glucose monitors) which track blood sugar levels in a human ( or in this case a koala). Anyways the company donated the CGM to the furry friend and now he is enjoying his life while the keepers watch his blood glucose levels. Some pics below.
A youtube video: In the video you can see Quincy getting his ear poked so it will draw blood so they can see his blood glucose levels, then you see him getting a shot of insulin. Next you see him knocked out and getting his fur shaved, then you will see him getting the Dexcom G6 applied to his skin, then a keeper pulls out her phone to get it to connect to the sensor to read his levels.
With the CGM they no longer have to poke his ear ever 1-2 hours, and they can get real-time updates on their phones.
