Let me just start this article out by saying this a review on a console and yes I know PC master race but I own both so I thought this would be a good article for anyone that is into console gaming as well.
Microsoft has made the claim that the Xbox One X is the most powerful console ever made. Is that actually the truth though? Let's take a look at some of what makes that claim pretty much true. Under the sleek hood of the new One X; 2.3 GHz processor, 6-terraflop GPU, and 12GB high-speed GDDR5 memory. All these specs give it a big edge over the PS4 Pro. Measuring at just 11.8 inches long, 9.4 inches wide, and 2.4 inches high it packs all this in about a 15% smaller case than the PS4 Pro as well.
It sports three USB 3.0 ports but like the older Xbox One S it doesn't have a slot to hook up a Kinect so if you want to use that you have to buy the $40 adopter from Microsoft. The system even when running games at 4k is very quiet and stays very cool. I've personally had mine running 8 hours plus and it wasn't even noticeable.
This is where the One X is boosting the most claiming it's the first console to support true 4K gaming. Microsoft is claiming that it has a list of over 100 games and upcoming games that are going to be enhanced with 4K graphics. I personally have Assassin's Creed Origins and there is a huge noticeable difference in the graphics from my regular One to the One X. The game looks stunning running 4K resolution and HD textures and also the HDR10 support makes colors and contrasts look amazing. Also having console games running at 60fps is a nice feature as well. Even if you don't have a 4K tv the console will upscale it to 1080p and there is said to even be a noticeable difference in that as well.
The only bad part currently is if game developers will add improvements to make it a enhanced game. It's basically left up to developers if they want to add 4K support and HD textures. Hopefully with this new system and the PS4 there will be more and more support added.
Another drawback is the 1TB harddrive. As of now Gears of War 4 with the new textures is roughly 103GB and Forza Motorsports 7 is 95 GB which is about double the size of the old install files on the older systems. As of now there is only the 1TB model which is sure to fill up fast with all the huge files needed to run the new features.
The One X also can play 4K videos off physical discs thanks to it's ultra-HD Blu-ray player and Dolby Atmos audio support. The PS4 has no option to play 4K videos like this strangely.
I personally am really enjoying my One X and I feel like I got my money's worth for what all it can do. It has the hardware of a high-end gaming PC cramed into a smaller console that runs quiet and cool for almost half the cost of building a PC. Hopefully this is just the start of what can be a huge step in home console potential.
