This is going to sound like a hella controversial opinion and all but Godfather Part 2 is not an all-time great film. Part 1 is a remarkable achievement in the medium of cinema, perhaps even flawless but Part 2 is flawed beyond belief for such a critically acclaimed picture. It's just far too slow pacing wise, the supporting cast of new characters are not as strong or convincing (Sollozzo is great, Hyman Roth is weak) and it's hard to get invested when they keep cutting back and forth between the two main characters though at least the flashbacks ring true. Pacino is brilliant in the main story, as is all the cast but Coppola just has no idea how to capture the essence of the Mafia without having brilliant source material to lean on.
