A 15 year old kid was arrested because he made a fake account and posted on a online video game platform that he was going to shoot his school up. The kid's principal seen the threat and alerted authorities who then arrested the child.

"Joke or not, these types of comments are felonies under the law," the sheriff's office said in a statement Monday. "After the mass violence we've seen in Florida and across the country, law enforcement officers have a responsibility to investigate and charge those who choose to make these types of threatening statements."

My question is how much more will authorities crack down on these type of threats. I know a bunch of people that have made jokes like this even on our old servers.

The issue is that the The kid's principal saw the threat.
He know the guy, he has a duty of care for the guy.... more to the point, if the guy did go an shoot up a school he would likely be criminally liable and would be out of a job for the rest of his life. You can't blame the principle.
