If you were to just get rid of private channels people would do the exact same thing either in other channels that aren't private or they would do so in a different Teamspeak or Discord. You're never going to be able to stop people from talking behind someone's back. The difference is that doing it this way (allowing people to have private channels) benefits the clan via donations.
I also disagree on it "driving people apart." People talk behind someone's back because they don't like the person already. It's not like talking behind someone's back drives people apart magically, the person being talked about is already disliked.
