Not sure why everyone is arguing about this. It's a pretty simple decision, and Kharn even stated the other option up front.

So what everyone is trying to say is that they disagree with private channels and would rather have people just buy another teamspeak for their personal use? That's essentially what it boils down to. We can either: A. rent out a channel to someone for some high price and use that money to keep the servers up for another month, or possibly even upgrade the servers, or B. let said person buy an entire teamspeak server for less and just completely stop using our services that everyone donates for. We looked at the options and simply concluded that it's beneficial to EgN to just rent out channels to people if they want to feel special. It helps with donations and encourages people to use our Teamspeak. Otherwise we might end up like EmD and have a teamspeak that's normally populated with 1-2 people lol.

Then so be it. It's their social life if they want to isolate themselves. They paid for a channel, so they can isolate the hell out of themselves and it won't bother me.

Pretty much this...

Doesn't help on the rare occasions I do go on TS every channel is password protected or I don't have permission to join either.

I count 4 out of 38 channels that are password protected. That's not a lot. As far as permissions go, I think the only ones you can't just randomly join are Kharn and Doldol's personal channel (which are normally used for dealing with situations), and the personal channels (not counting higher-ups) assuming they don't want you to join. Other than that, the "Table for X" channels limit how many can be in there at one time. If you're having permission problems then talk to Doldol or Kharn so they can sort it out.

The cliques in this clan are very real.

So are the ones in real life. Cliques aren't necessarily bad. It's simply a group of people that like to hang out around each other and share a common interest (probably a certain game). I'm pretty sure you hang out with a certain set of friends, which can probably be considered a clique by some. If you don't, then you're probably part of a small minority of people that just roam the Earth and meet new faces then move on. I don't think I've come across a group of people in the Teamspeak that weren't willing to talk to you simply because you're not in the clique.

You don't have to get a personal channel to isolate yourself. You can simply just sit in the CSGO channel all day and not talk to people outside of it. Same thing. It's more of a personal choice whether you decide to isolate yourself from others, but then it's also their choice and social life. We don't have rules to force people into being social. In fact, we don't even have rules that state you have to be in TS when playing games, or you have to post X amount of posts in a week. The day we make rules that state "You may only stay in a certain TS channel for X amount of time" is the day I leave this clan.

Better yet, you could always mute your sound, or the people who are "trolling" for example, Dave spams stupid sounds half the time, so you mute that fag or just mute your sound in general

I always tell people this. If you don't want to hear certain people, then just mute them in TS. Everyone should have that permission. It only mutes that person to you and nobody else. I even use it....

Sometimes when an event like that happens and you get demoted people simply quit the community through anger. I don't know any specific reason why he left other than getting demoted.

That's actually a good point you brought up. Normally there's a post regarding all the topics that were covered in the meeting. In fact, I don't remember seeing a recap of the past few meetings. I'll talk to Kharn and we'll work on getting those out next time.

All in all, I don't see why everyone is so upset. You can argue for days, but it won't change our decision. The moment we start getting too many donations for channels is the moment we re-evaluate all of this. At the same time, I kind of hope that happens. Then Doldol can get his unmanaged dedicated server to migrate everything on to :) On the flip side, if people stop donating for channels, then we'll be right back to where we started. I'd like to just see where this goes.

If you are referring to me, i'm in the channel that fits to what i'm actually doing, thank you. I haven't said anything about that new rules that should be forced, nor have i talked about that you've once had a rule about people who need to socialize. But i do for a fact know that EgN wanted to get people more together, talk to eachother instead of hanging out alone in a locked channel, and therefor decided that there should be no more private channels. I do understand the reason for the private channels completely, and its a fair way of getting donations to keep EgN running, all i'm doing is stating some facts.

I was referring to you, but not in a way that's condescending. Just using you as an example to show that peoples tendency to sit in a channel all day depends on their social activeness regardless of the name on the channel or whether they can claim right to it or not. People will only gravitate towards a group of peers only if they are in the mood or willing to socialize. That's not to say that the very same group might not gravitate towards you instead, referring to Chips' example. My argument is that a personal channel doesn't isolate anyone unless they are wanting to isolate themselves on purpose, in which case you really can't do anything to force them to be social. It's either let them sit alone in their channel that they donated for, or just not use TS altogether. In a way, I can use myself as an example. I'm always in my channel and muted, but that's because I work and normally use my headset for calls on my computer. It freaks me out when I'm talking to a co-worker and someone joins the channel screaming "FAGGOT" or "SLAPPY BACON TITTIES!" mid conversation. I'm still available, just not through audio.

And you're right about EgN wanting to get people to socialize with each other, but that wasn't the entire reason for not allowing people to rent personal channels. It was the same mentality about putting ads on our forums for additional revenue. We just didn't want to whore ourselves out for donations. But since the winter break is coming to an end and things tend to slow down a bit, we figured we would try something new to keep the pace up. Kharn purposefully made the donation requirement high, and yet people still wanted to pay.

On a side note, back in 420 Mafia we had a Ventrilo server. Well Smokey was running the community and was frustrated at the amount of people that would join Vent only to go AFK. Well he was fed up one day and decided to delete every channel except the lobby in order to force people to socialize. It was a bad idea, but funny from my perspective lol. He later regained his senses and added the channels back.

Smokey's great experiment worked about as well as the prohibition did, people just stopped coming into vent and started to use other peoples. Hell, some people even rented their own vent and were handing out channels to friends, even had someone complain about it because they didn't get their own channel and wanted me to go and force this other member to either shut their vent down or make this complainer a channel.

To be honest while I am the "Leader" and it's expected of me to be sociable and interested in everyones lives....even I need a private channel I can hop into when I just want to talk with Blazin or Amethyst or Doldol....hell even that Sloppy Bacon Boob guy and Warcrimes.

I'm still shocked that once in a while someone will be in TS....AND in a skype call with 4-5 other people! Its the opposite of people for Formula Veteran

I apologize for using that as an example as clear it was a case of me not keeping up to date with posts. My point about communication really has a limited relation to the TeamSpeak channels. So the only take away I hope people have from my original post is a request for meeting notes to be posted to those who cannot attend a meeting. But again that has no relation to the original topic I will slowly back away from this conversation.....

Hurtful!

Also, lets don't forget that i'm pretty for sure i bought vent admin from smokey one time (even though i was the the highest ranking member, tied with doldol, that was under him and papa). He allowed me to make my own channel and make the rules in it too. I must have been around 14 at the time or so, and everyone i played with thought it was the shit, because "tables" didn't exist. This has been going on for a long amount of time, and has always been seen as attractive. What is the first thing someone does once they get staff+? They make a TS channel. Why? Because it's cool.

The system of donations has kept our servers running the way they are, and have allowed for any upgrades they have gotten since day one. Why would we criticize people who want to keep our community running? Why would we try to dog them for not wanting admin on a server, but instead finding an alternitive way to get some bang for their buck? All you guys need to get your panties out of a wad and just open your eyes. If someone you want to talk to is hiding in a private channel, they'll either get you pulled in, come out to talk to you, or they didn't actually want to talk to you in the first place.
