James Gunn got fired by Disney and will no longer direct Guardians Vol 3 because of 8 year old offensive tweets that were discovered. I honestly think it’s bullshit. What do you guys think?

I don't like the idea of companies firing people or "asking them to leave" because of stuff they did or said years ago. Especially if they deleted the post or apologized for it. People learn from their mistakes, if it's clear they've moved on or learned from it then I think there is no valid reason to fire the person. I don't think it's right for companies to hire a person and then years later after they've already done a bunch of work go back and look at old info and then fire them for something they did a long time ago. You can't hire someone expecting them to have never made a mistake in the past, and if they really had a problem with something they said in the past they probably shouldn't have hired the person in the first place.

In this specific case I'm not sure if he has changed his behavior, but with the increase in stuff like this happening it's really worrying that people will start getting fired for simple opinions that are unrelated to what they are even doing.

Exactly man. When is it going to spread beyond Hollywood?

Not just that....but there are instances in which it was warranted and some like this where its overreaction and in fear of being considered complacent Disney decides full on emotion.

However, knowing Disney they may have digged more into it and found more which they wanted to nick in the butt now. But my money is its overreaction and wanting to preempt snow flakes.

8 years is a pretty long time, especially to fire someone for something they did that long ago. There really is no other reason besides siding with the oversensitive snowflakes that I can see justifiable, especially if he deleted them and or apologized. This type of practice is really annoying and isn't only affecting Hollywood but other entertainment platforms such as Twitch and Youtube.

Hopefully, people eventually get fed up with this shit and force companies to realize they can't cater to these types of people anymore.

Yeah, this is a step too far. I expected some form of punishment, what he said was totally not cool, especially since he never deleted the tweets, but a complete severing of their business relationship is unnecessary.

Disney knew what they were getting into, the guy who made PG Porn and Tromeo and Juliet is gonna have a twisted mind.

Fucked up part is that when someone is actually molesting kids, or has a history of molesting kids, they have no problem hiring them / not firing them.
